Description

The Radium Engineering charcoal canister purifies odors that emit from the fuel tank vent system. It is designed for both EFI and carbureted fuel systems. Depicted below is how easy a Radium Fuel Vent Charcoal Canister (shown right) can be implemented with an existing Radium Fuel Cell Vent Kit.

TESTING

  • To test for a restrictive pressure drop through the charcoal canister, a quick flow Radium Engineering dry break dump can was used. Results showed a negligible difference between a charcoal canister installed or not installed on the fuel vent.
  • Fuel vapor measurements were taken with a combustible gas detector which detects 50 ppm to 10,000 ppm.
  • All probe testing was measured inside the atmospheric exit of the fuel tank vent
  • Without the charcoal canister installed, the gas detector maxed out over 10,000 ppm of fuel vapor.
  • With the charcoal canister installed, the gas detector did not measure any fuel vapor (<50 ppm).

CONSTRUCTION

The 3-piece charcoal canisters are CNC machined from 6061 aluminum. They are Type-II anodized for maximum corrosion resistance. The 16AN ORB female end caps (shown below) are sealed to the body with FKM O-rings.

The preassembled vibratory-packed carbon resides inside 150 micron strainers and anodized aluminum baffles (shown above). This prevents any loose carbon media debris to escape from the canister.

For high flow fuel venting, the end caps on all fuel vent charcoal canister kits (below) feature large -16AN ORB female threaded ports. All charcoal canister kits (below) feature a 2-piece anodized aluminum billet clamp. Three stainless steel M5x0.8mm screws are used to mount the clamp to the vehicle and two additional M5x0.8mm screws are used to secure the clamp halves together.

20-0828-00 FUEL VENT CHARCOAL CANISTER, UNIVERSAL

This kit includes two 16AN ORB male to 10AN ORB female couplers. For classic cars, most fuel tanks use either 1/4" (6mm), 5/16" (8mm), or a 3/8" (10mm) vent line.

20-0828-08 FUEL VENT CHARCOAL CANISTER, FOR 1/2IN HOSE

This kit is designed to use 1/2" fuel vent hose. A second outlet barbed fitting (shown below) is also provided in case a 3/4" Air Filter will be installed directly to the canister.

20-0828-12 FUEL VENT CHARCOAL CANISTER, FOR 3/4IN HOSE

This kit is designed to use 3/4" fuel vent hose.

20-0828-SK SERVICE KIT FOR FUEL VENT CHARCOAL CANISTER

Recharging the fuel vent charcoal canister will not be a frequent occurrence but will depend on usage. For instance, if the internal carbon becomes overly saturated, filtration efficiency will be reduced.

Fortunately, the canister can be disassembled and recharged with fresh charcoal and new 150 micron strainers using this service kit.

DIMENSIONS

The dimensions shown below are the same for all fuel vent charcoal canisters. The diameter of the charcoal canister is 2.36" (59.8mm).
