When building a high-performance Ford Barra engine, oil control is essential. The factory sump is often the limiting factor in sustaining oil pressure during hard cornering or aggressive acceleration causing the oil pump to starve. The Atomic Big Ears Sump Upgrade boosts oil capacity and improves control without compromising ground clearance — making it the perfect solution for serious street, drag, and circuit builds.

Capacity equals safety. By increasing the total oil volume by approximately 2.5 Litres and slowing it's flow in and out of the baffles during cornering, you significantly reduce the risk of the pickup running dry during high-G manoeuvres. More oil also means better thermal management, keeping your bearing temperatures stable during extended dyno runs or track sessions.

The Atomic Solution

We designed the Big Ears Sump to be a "No Compromise" upgrade. It features substantial "wings" to increase volume while maintaining the standard sump depth, ensuring you retain OEM ground clearance for street driving. Inside, it features baffling to control surge, making it a drop-in wet sump solution for engines producing anywhere from 400kW to over 1000hp.

?? Important Fitment Note: 16mm Girdles

If you are installing this sump on an engine fitted with an Atomic 16mm Main Girdle, modifications are required due to the increased height of the main stud nuts.

  • Issue: The rear four main stud nuts will typically contact the sump floor.
  • Solution: You must drill clearance holes in the sump floor and weld in alloy cups to cover them.
  • Reference: Please see the 3D model in the product images for the exact location of these clearance cups. This modification ensures correct fitment and oil-tight sealing.
