Heat Wrap

Your car’s exhaust system generates a lot of heat, especially in racing or motorsports applications.

Restricting or shutting in this heat will do your car a world of good. Exhaust heat wrap can help you do that. When properly installed, it can reduce the temperatures in your car’s engine bay by up to 50%, thus improving your engine’s reliability. We at Car Mods Australia can hook you up with premium-quality exhaust heat wrap products. We are the licensed vendors of several established heat wrap manufacturers in Australia.

Exhaust heat wrap is a heavy-duty, tape-like material purposefully designed to insulate a vehicle’s exhaust pipes. In addition to preventing excess heat radiation, it also increases exhaust gas velocities within the exhaust pipes, thus reducing back pressure. Consequently, heat wrap also increases performance and higher fuel efficiency. Depending on an engine’s size and capability, exhaust wrap can add between 5-10 horsepower to its total output. Also, in covering up bland-looking exhaust headers and pipes, heat wrap helps to improve engine bay aesthetics.

Exhaust heat wrap is available in two options:

  1. Fibreglass Exhaust Wrap:

It is made using fibreglass fibres woven and bonded together using special, heat-resistant adhesives. You can count on it to handle temperatures up to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit (537 Celcius). Some fibreglass products include additional heat-resistant or reflective coatings.

  1. Lava Exhaust Wrap (often dubbed Titanium heat wrap):

It primarily constitutes crushed volcanic rock fibre, which is 25 per cent stronger than plain fibreglass fibre exhaust wrap. It can withstand temperatures up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit (980 Celcius).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it normal for exhaust heat wrap to smoke?

It is not uncommon to see exhaust wrap smoking when used for the first time. After an initial break-in period of a few days, it will stop smoking and continue functioning as intended.

Is exhaust wrap flammable?

No, it isn’t. Because its materials are designed to withstand extremely high temperatures, it is unlikely to catch fire.
